Galerie Tangerine will host an exhibit of paintings by local artists Amanda Joy Brown and Katherine Wagner, entitled Ruche from Apr. 5 to Jul. 6, 2018. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Apr. 5, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the gallery. The two artists have developed work exploring relationship, pattern, and memory through textile as a bifocaled response to Nashville Fashion Week.
In Ruche, Brown and Wagner find common ground through divergent approaches. Brown enacts landscape painting by memory as she experimentally layers textiles and paint, tucking and draping the mediums to create dimensional form. Wagner, meanwhile, distills time and identity into the patterns she depicts; each one crumpled, an imperfect version of itself, yet boldly recognizable. Both artists find the nuance of textile instrumental to this exploration of recollection.
