Thaddaeus Tekell

Daybreak Artist

About the Artist

Thaddaeus Tekell joined Daybreak Artist Collective in January 2019. He was homeless for a few years before moving into housing. Thaddaeus grew up in Nashville, and according to Thaddaeus' mom, as soon as he could hold a crayon, he spent all of this time drawing. Thaddaeus graduated from Overton high school in 1987 and attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. After graduating, he worked as an A/V tech in Chicago from 1991-1998, namely at the Shed Aquarium and the West Side Technical Institute. Diagnosed with schizophrenia in his late 20s, Thaddaeus bounced back and forth between Nashville and Chicago until permanently returning to Nashville in the mid 2000's. Thaddaeus discovered early on that art helped him to deal with his mental issues and in efforts to both earn some additional income and be a part of a community doing good in Nashville.
